Study Guide

There are many ways that you might choose to make your way through the unit. The diagram and suggested sessions (below) will help to plan your learning through the Lead & Facilitate Offsite Workers unit. The sessions outlined below are a suggestion only - you may have another way that you prefer to study.

Session 1 - Looking at Outcomes - Pink tiles

This includes:
  • the difference between virtual/offsite and other workers
  • roles and responsibilities of team members
  • characteristics of good offsite workers and leaders
  • setting goals
  • managing by results
  • a forum - Is managing by results key to effective teleworking leadership?
A few points to think about for your blog:
Why does a leader of virtual/offsite workers need to have a different set of leadership skills to any leader?
How does an effective leader of offsite workers ensure that goals are communicated and understood?

Session 2 - Support staff - Blue tiles

This includes:
  • meetings
  • communication, including between onsite and offsite staff
  • community building in the workplace
  • use technology to communicate well
  • legal and organisational considerations
A few points to think about for your blog:

How can technology be used to encourage a sense of community in the organisation?
Legal and organisational considerations that affect offsite workers.

Session 3: Evaluating performance - Red tiles

This includes:
  • effective evaluation strategies for offsite workers
  • making the best of offsite work environments
